01
The Plage Sud neighbourhood

South of the resort, between route du Lion and the dune.

Plage Sud is the most natural and least crowded beach of Lacanau Océan compared with the central seafront: fewer people in summer, a surf break that is often clean in the morning, and an Atlantic sunset facing the ocean. No concrete, just sand, the dune and the pine forest behind.

The neighbourhood around route du Lion lives at the pace of the pines. You sleep in the quiet, walk to the water, and keep the centre, its restaurants and its market ten minutes away by bike along shaded paths. It is the neighbourhood we chose for our gîtes.

For whom? Couples, surfers, car-free stays, quiet remote work, long walks on the sand off season.

02
The path to the ocean

Three minutes of sand and pines.

From the gîtes you leave with your towel and reach Plage Sud in three minutes along the sandy path through the pine forest. The beach is lifeguarded in July and August, with a seasonal rescue post and clearly marked swimming area. Off season it is not supervised: it becomes a place for walking and photography, often almost empty.

In July and August the sun sets between 9 pm and 10 pm: bring a light jumper for a drink on the sand. Back at the gîte, each one has its own shower room to rinse off the sand, and its terrace to dry towels and wetsuits.

03
The five gîtes

Five wooden cabins, each for two.

L'Écureuil, La Forestière, Djah Point, Le Lion and Le Pharaon: five independent gîtes of 35 m², designed for two people, each with its colour and its private terrace. Inside: modern bedding with a 160 × 200 queen-size bed, reversible air conditioning, an equipped kitchen with dishwasher, a smart TV, Wi-Fi and a private shower room with a walk-in shower.

Around them, the flowered garden and its koi pond, a shared washing machine in the common laundry room, secure parking and, as an option, a 22 kW charging station for electric vehicles. Everything is booked directly with us, Cathy and William, without platform commission. The gîtes can be visited in 3D in the immersive tour and compared in the list of the five gîtes.

The right time

When to come and stay near Plage Sud.

July and August: lifeguarded beach, everything open, everything full, book several months ahead. June and September: the best balance of quiet and weather, with an ocean still warm in September. From April to November the surf schools on route du Lion give lessons. Off season, Plage Sud becomes a huge walking ground for two, and the gîtes, heated by the reversible air conditioning, suit cosy weekends.

For a stay for two, we gathered our ideas in romantic weekend in Lacanau Océan.

“In the morning you hear the ocean before you see it. Three minutes of path through the pines, and you are there. That is why we chose this neighbourhood, and what our guests tell us when they leave.”
