Where to spend a romantic weekend in Lacanau?

For a romantic weekend in Lacanau Océan, Les Jardins de la Sud offer five wooden gîtes designed for two people, each with its private terrace, in a flowered garden with a koi pond, 200 metres from Plage Sud. The sunset over the ocean is reached on foot through the pine forest, and the aperitif is offered at our partner Le Café Maritime, facing the sea.

The essentials in 30 seconds

A cabin for two, the ocean at the end of the path.

Just for two. Each gîte is 35 m² and sleeps only two people: queen-size bed, private terrace, equipped kitchen, shower room with a walk-in shower.

The quiet of the pines, the ocean 3 minutes away. No shopping street, no late terraces in the Plage Sud neighbourhood. The sunset is watched from the sand, on foot.

Little extras that count. Free aperitif facing the ocean at Le Café Maritime, 20 minutes offered on the first massage with Noémie, direct booking with us, no commission.

Why a gîte rather than a hotel

The intimacy of a cabin, the comfort of a real house.

A weekend for two is about details: breakfast on the terrace without a schedule, a door that opens onto the garden rather than a corridor, nobody above or below you. Our five gîtes are independent, wooden, each with its private terrace and its colour: L'Écureuil, La Forestière, Djah Point, Le Lion and Le Pharaon.

Inside, 35 m² designed for two: modern bedding with a 160 × 200 queen-size bed, reversible air conditioning, an equipped kitchen with dishwasher, a smart TV, Wi-Fi, a private shower room with a walk-in shower. Outside, the flowered garden, the koi pond and its waterfall. Visit the gîtes in 3D in the immersive tour before choosing yours.

The programme

Forty-eight hours for two, without a car.

Saturday, arrival. The keys, the garden, the terrace. Three minutes of sandy path through the pine forest and Plage Sud is there, the most natural and least crowded beach of the resort. In July and August the sun sets between 9 pm and 10 pm: bring a light jumper for a drink on the sand, or head to the seafront for dinner at Le Café Maritime, a brasserie facing the Atlantic where the aperitif is on us, on presentation of the voucher handed over at arrival.

Sunday, the lake and brunch. Brunch at the Rainbow Café, 350 metres from the gîtes, then twelve minutes by bike on the flat path along the forest to the lake of Lacanau: paddle or kayak for two with Évolution 2, a terrace by the water at Sunrise. Back through the pines, and the end of the afternoon on the terrace of the gîte.

The wellness break. Noémie, our partner massage therapist, offers 20 minutes on our guests' first massage, then a 10% discount on the following ones: appointments are booked directly with her. And if you feel like sharing a first wave, the Surf Kalani school is 50 metres away, ideal as a couple, with discounts for our guests.

Facing the ocean

The aperitif offered, the sunset thrown in.

Le Café Maritime is one of the fine tables of the Lacanau Océan seafront: a large terrace facing the Atlantic, sea-flavoured cooking, grilled fish, seafood, ceviches, and a fine list of Bordeaux wines. Arnaud and his team keep their warmest welcome for guests of Les Jardins de la Sud: tell them we sent you.

For a simpler evening, the Cheeky Family guinguette, 450 metres away on route du Lion, serves world cuisine with vegetarian options from lunch to dinner. The walk back to the gîte is under the pines.

The right time

For two, Lacanau works all year round.

June and September offer the best balance of quiet and weather, with an ocean still warm in September and a Plage Sud that empties out. July and August require booking several months ahead. From October to March the resort regains its calm: long walks on the sand, the market, a terrace in the winter sun, and the gîte heated by the reversible air conditioning for cosy evenings.

Would you rather build the stay around the waves? Read where to stay to surf in Lacanau. Prefer the neighbourhood first? See staying near Plage Sud.

“The best moment of a weekend for two here is the first evening: you drop the bags, take the path, and the ocean is already orange.”
